Kathryn's 6th Birthday...

On June 15th, my sweet Kathryn turned 6. We celebrated by going to dinner at Red Robin with Maya & Kai. The restaurant staff even sang "Happy Birthday" to her.

Instead of a big birthday party this year, I decided to treat Kathryn, and her BBF Maya to a spa day at Sweet & Sassy's. They got mani/pedi's, chocolate facials, & up do's.

After they were done, we took the girls outside to strike a pose with the Sweet & Sassy pink limo.

They had so much fun. Miss Megan did a great job. They felt just like princesses.

Buckalew Field Day, Water Fun, & End of the School Year

On May 7 the girls' school had a Field Day and they asked me to make matching t-shirts for them.

I was able to volunteer and follow Kathryn & her class around. It was a hot day, but both girls had a lot of fun with their friends.

Enjoying popsicles.

On May 22, the girls got to have some fun playing with water guns in Lisa's backyard with Maya, Kai, and Lisa's niece, Hannah. Allen got in on the action, too. ;-)

Both girls had a great year in school, and two great teachers.

Kathryn's First Dance Recital...

Kathryn just finished her first year of dance and has really enjoyed it. Her dance recital was on Saturday, May 15. The theme was A Year to Remember.

Kathryn was very excited about getting to wear makeup. She looked a little too grown up for Mama.

A few weeks ago the teachers had everyone tell what was their favorite memeory of the last year. These were posted as a decoration outside the auditorium.

Kathryn's best friend Maya came to see her performance.

Kathryn's birthday buddy, Emily, was in the same dance class. She also had a friend, Grace, from her Kindergarten class at school that took dance on a different day at the same studio.

Here are a couple videos I took during rehearsal on Friday night.

My Two Front Teeth was her tap number. Unfortunately, I was a little far away from the stage. Kathryn starts on the front row, wearing the red gown with white spots.

Almost There was her ballet/jazz number. This time I was a little closer. Kathryn is standing in the same spot.

We were so proud of Kathryn that day. Daddy even bought her some flowers. She really is getting to be such a big girl.

Rebecca's Poetry

Along with the Mother's Day poems, Rebeca wrote some other poems. I thought I would share them with you.

This one is called a"found poem." She had to pick an object, write four adjectives about it, two places you can find it, two things it is used for, and a reason you like it.

Art Pallet
Colorful, dirty, blotched, bright
In my home, in artist shops
Art pallets are used to hold paint on a flat surface and not in a can
It is also used for artists or just other people painting
Art pallets are interesting things and make me happy

Here is a picture of the two acrostic poems she did.

Rebecca's reads:

cReative
bEautiful
Boisterous
Exciting
Crazy
Clever
Artistic

Here is a picture of her "painted poem."

The words written along the back edge of the dragon read:

"scaly, green, rough, strong, hot, fire, extinct, Chinese New Year."

The last one she wrote was called a "biopoem."

Rebecca

Artistic, smart, pretty

Wishes to be a published author

Dreams of being a bat vet

Wants to go to Rome

Who wonders about life

Who fears stag beetles

Who is afraid of nothing

Who likes family

Who believes in God

Who loves bats

Who plans to travel around the world

McNight

I did not realize how talented my sweet daughter was. I am so proud of Rebecca.

Happy Mother's Day!

For Mother's Day my sweet husband sent me some irises, my favorite flowers. I also recieved some very special notes & poems from my children. I thought I would share them with you.

Here is a cinquain by Rebecca. A "cinquain" is is a short, unrhymed poem of twenty-two syllables, five lines of 2, 4, 6, 8, 2 syllables, respectively. I think Rebecca's is actually 2,4,6,6,2 but is still very sweet.

MOMMY
Artistic, smart
Scapbooks, understands, loves
Will love me forever
ROBIN

Here is an acrostic poem she wrote.

cReative
lOving
Beautiful
hIlarious
fuNky

Kathryn drew a picture for me and wrote a very sweet note. Here is a picture of her note. Love the picture of me. ;-)

It translates to:
"My mom is special because
she loves me very much.
she gives me my lunch.
she knows me very well.
she has me to cuddle.
she takes good care of me.
I love her so much, too.
she let's me have gum."

I feel very blessed to have a wonderful husband and two sweet daughters. Thank you God for giving me the honor and privilege of being their mother.

Kathryn Reads Again!

Kathryn has made real progress this year in reading. At the beginning of the year she struggled and whined, saying she couldn't read. But she has come so far since then and we are really proud of her. Here is a recent afternoon when she was reading Frog and Toad.
